Music is the drink of the soul and it completely fills up his bowl. It pervades his life in profound ways and although it had been a hobby for a long time, it’s now a way of life. Darshan Lodaya a.k.a Bluesanova is an indie producer of electronic music with an urban and existential feel. He is also a skilled guitar player and a soulful singer.
“My family isn’t very musical and I didn’t have access to proper musical instruments. But I started making music from a young age and bought my first instrument, my guitar when I was sixteen” says Darshan. A year later, in 1998 the electronic music genre was fast emerging and he got instantly drawn to it. It was then that he came up with the moniker Bluesanova. However his time to make music professionally was yet to come. He completed his Engineering degree in Construction and followed it up with a Master’s degree in International Business. He got in to a corporate career and worked in the banking sector for seven years. Although on the side, music remained a constant force in his life through these years. Coupled with a sense of lack of fulfillment with a corporate job, Darshan instinctually knew that time had come to answer the clarion call.
Darshan left his cushy banking job in mid-2012 and delved into making electronic music fulltime under Bluesanova label.
Bluesanova music attempts to popularize electronica across musical genre. It wants to transcend classes and provide a musical experience equivalent to a free fall to its listeners- to reflect and liberate themselves. Bluesanova music straddles through various sub-genres like Chillout, Lounge, Trance, House, Electronic Pop, Industrial, Psytrance and, fusion of classical & western music. Its major musical influences include Depeche Mode, New Order and Infected Mushroom.
Darshan makes all his music in his modest home studio – a bedroom. However his musical process is hardly confined to his room. “The Internet has been instrumental in allowing me to collaborate with talented artists all over the world whom I would otherwise not meet in person” says Darshan elatedly. He had guitarists and trumpeters from Egypt, Croatia, US and UK composing a part of his music on a few projects, talented rappers from Mumbai providing vocals for a song and a classical Carnatic Violinist playing a piece in another. This ingenious approach of ‘web-sourcing’ music process combined with an experimental & bold outlook gives Bluesanova a truly international appeal.
Darshan has some exciting plans for this year and next. He plans to launch his vocal-oriented electronic music album by mid-2015. Videos of this album would be released on MTV Indies and YouTube. Coinciding with the release of this album, Darshan has planned to have a live set-up featuring other musicians along with him. He also intends to go-live with his music in coming few months by performing at DJ gigs.
With music like that, Bluesanova is sure to catch the fancy of many an audience.
