In India the richest 1% own 58% of the total wealth while 22% of the population languishes under the poverty line. Isn’t this high level of inequality staggering, in spite of 70 years of taking over destiny in our own hands?
We want to understand the various facets of this inequality and factors that cause it. While myriad social and economic challenges exist in our country, there has been a steady emergence of innovative social startups as well. Though in its infancy, we suppose social entrepreneurship may have the potential to address inequality, at least in some aspects if not all.
Economyforall is a documentary project that aims to seek answers to questions related to the nature of inequality in India and if social entrepreneurship with its ability to create social impact through market-driven solutions can be the equalizing force.
We intend to interact with several entrepreneurs, investors, academicians, journalists and professionals across the social entrepreneurship ecosystem to understand this topic. Economyforall will put forth their views, tell stories of some social entrepreneurs and impact organizations working towards reducing inequality by creating an economy for the excluded and showcase stories of hope at the bottom of the pyramid.
We launched this project in September 2017 and are slowly evolving our own understanding of this topic. We will be posting all the wisdom and useful ideas related to this topic on this page.
